Us + our flowers
Charleston Farm is our private family property of 111 acres, in Charleston South Australia. When we moved here in 2021, the flower patch was a mere thought and just a paddock. Together with my family (on occasion 😉), we have created this pocket of colourful goodness to share with our local community.
Was it always my plan to be a flower farmer? Not at all (but I do come from a family of farmers so I guess it’s not that surprising). I planted my first flower in October 2021, sold my first blooms that summer and introduced Pick Your Own flower sessions in the Spring of 2023. We’ve gone from 6 flower beds to 60 at present…and I’m not sure I’m done just yet.
The flower patch sits on a third of an acre with chosen flowers grown for picking through the months of Spring to Autumn. It is not my intention to grow everything I possibly can. I prefer to trial different flowers to determine what grows best in my location, what is popular for picking and what I enjoy growing as the seasons come and go. It’s amazing how many flowers can be produced from only a small area.
Inviting the community along to experience flower picking on our farm is such a pleasure. It’s so lovely to meet other flower lovers and see their enjoyment in what we’ve created. Even the blokes who wouldn’t usually choose to go flower picking have walked away with a smile. I consider that a win!
With each experience I try to make it better than the last, so I look forward to bringing even more ideas to life and meeting more of you in person.
Here’s to another fun flower season ahead!

our flower season
Our flower season runs from Spring to Autumn, with no fixed start or end date. This is due to mother nature usually deciding for us! At the farm we grow a large range of premium cut flowers, both perennial and annuals.
THE LAST 3 SEASONS
2022 / 2023
This is the first season of a full patch where I wasn’t just experimenting with selling flowers. It was a much wetter year as can be seen in the patch surrounds, including dam capacity. Flowers were sold via a roadside stall on occasion, a subscription service and to several florists.
2023 / 2024
This season was about getting to know what grows best in this location and what I can stretch with planting and blooming times. Still a huge learning curve but the growing side felt easier and I didn’t have to refer to notes as much. Flowers were sold to local florists and Pick Your Own was introduced to the local community.
2024 / 2025
The patch expanded outside the main boundary this season to include nooks for tables and more photo opportunities. We also added festoon lighting for when the days get dark.
It finished off a very dry flower season with the dam almost empty. Flowers were predominantly sold through the popular Pick Your Own experiences, which have become a real highlight with fun collaborations, private hires and marriage proposals throughout the season.
